Shape and surface roughness

Měření profilu povrchu profiloměrem NexView

Today's common rail diesel fuel injection systems, found in most European diesel vehicles, require extremely high operating pressures. Injection systems operate at these high pressures to reduce emission loads, but to enable high operating pressures it is essential that the surface of the components is as smooth as possible.

The metrology methods required for such an application must be non-destructive to avoid disturbing the surface. Even microscopic defects on the injector surface can lead to fuel leakage at high pressure, which can lead to component failure.

Even such super-polished contact surfaces can be repeatedly, non-destructively and quickly measured and analyzed with the NexView™ profilometer - the flagship product from Zygo - the world leader in profilometers and interferometers.

With the new Mx™ software, many new application directions have been developed, such as measuring the micro-roughness and shape of sealing surfaces, plunger concentricity, valve seat inclination, smoothness and roundness, and many more. Mx™ software is fully compliant with ISO 4287/4288 (2D profile) and ISO 25178 (3D structure). The tools and controls in the Mx™ software environment are clear and easy to understand.

High repeatability of component measurements is key when monitoring the production process. This is key to reducing scrap and increasing tool life.
