FS5 spectrofluorimeter

The FS5 from renowned manufacturer Edinburgh Instruments is a compact photoluminescence spectrometer with high sensitivity and optional modules for time-resolved and NIR spectroscopy. In its basic configuration, the FS5 modular system is a fully integrated fluorescence spectrometer forsteady state measurements. The high sensitivity, fast acquisition of experimental data, and ease of operation make the FS5 a very effective tool for luminescence spectroscopy (steady state provides excitation and emission spectra, emission maps, synchrotron spectra, absorption spectra, and kinetics spectra).

Key Features

  • Flexible modular solution
  • Single software package for all measurements and analysis of measured data (different modules are recognized by the software)
  • High instrument sensitivity - better than 10000:1
  • Possibility to connect two emission detectors at the same time(easy extension into the NIR region)
  • Monochromators with 225 mm focal length for betterstray light rejection and higher opticalthroughput
  • Automatic carousel with filters to remove higher diffraction orders
  • Computer controlled mount for two diffraction gratings
  • Three detectors in the basic assembly - reference (excitation intensity control), transmission (absorbance measurement) and emission (luminescence signal registration)
  • Enclosed design to prevent dust from entering the beam path
  • Emission shutter for detector protection
  • Detector temperature control
  • Expandable with modules for fluorescence and phosphorescence lifetime measurements

FS5 Spectrometer Extensions

  • MCS upgrade - allows measurement of phosphorescence decay on a time scale from < 5 µs to > 10 s, usesMulti-Channel Scaling method, excitation by microsecond Xe discharge (5 W)
  • TCSPC upgrade - allows fluorescence decay to be measured on a time scale from < 150 ps to > 10 µs, uses a time-correlated single photon counting method, excitation by a picosecond diode laser or LED light source
  • TCSPC+ upgrade = extended version of the TCSPC module, can measure fluorescence lifetimes from < 25 ps to > 10 µs
  • NIR upgrade - adds a second detector with sensitivity from 600 to 1010 nm, extending the basic spectral range (200 - 900 nm) into the near infrared
  • NIR+ upgrade - adds a second detector that is optimized for wavelengths from 950 to 1650 nm
