The MCU (Magnifying Coupler Unit) is a magnifying adapter that is used in some common fluorescence microscope models to efficiently use the full field of view of the sensor while maintaining the high resolution of the camera. The magnifying adapter is primarily used in combination with the Sona 4.2B-11 back-illuminated sCMOS camera, which is specific to the size of the sensor, which reaches up to 32 mm (22.5 x 22.5 mm) diagonally.

Additional magnification with the MCU is provided by adapting the output port of the microscope to the sensor area of the camera.
