Digital Camera Fundamentals - Andor

In this type of sensor, the signal is read out from the pixels in parallel , allowing high speed capture of high resolution images. A sensor typical of Andor cameras is called an "Active Pixel Sensor" - APS. Its operation is as follows:

  1. Light hits the sensor, an adequate charge is generated.
  2. The charge is converted into an analog voltage within each pixel
  3. The analogue voltage is collected successively from each row of pixels
  4. The analogue voltage is converted into a digital signal in AD converters
  5. The digital signal is read out at a rate of approximately 200MHz separately for each sensor half

The sCMOS sensor manufacturing technology is based on the design and manufacturing of the previous generation of sensors - CMOS, but compared to CMOS, sCMOS sensors have the following capabilities:

in one frame at a time.
