Abbreviation for Spinning Disc Confocal Microscopy - confocal microscopy based on a rotating disc. This method achieves the same goal as CLSM - i.e. detection of signal only from the plane of focus. The confocal sensing in SDCM (Spinning Disc Confocal Microscope) is guaranteed by a disc with several thousand so-called pinholes. The excitation laser is extended over the entire field of view and detection occurs with scientific cameras. The advantages of this method are the high sensing speed, the sensitivity of the cameras used and their high resolution.
