Upgrading or replacing an outdated laser doesn't have to be a nightmare. New laser sources bring lower operating costs and higher performance even to older production lines. Read how Coherent solved the replacement of the older Diamond E-400 with the new Diamond J compatible series.
The Diamond E-400 CO2 laser source is a reliable sealed pulsed CO2 laser that offers an average power of 400 W and peak power up to 1.7 kW. It was introduced to the market in early 2008 and has become a favourite among machine integrators thanks to several design innovations that make it easier to integrate into workstations. For end users, it was particularly interesting because of its low operating costs and high reliability. At the time, it was one of the best lasers on the market in its class. Today, however, the parameters of this laser no longer match the latest trends in development and performance.
The production of the Coherent Diamond E-400 laser source was therefore discontinued in September 2017 and service support for this model is being phased out as of 2019. At the same time as the production is being discontinued, Coherent has launched new models of the Diamond J-series lasers to replace the older model. The advantage of the new Coherent Diamond J lasers is a lower purchase price, higher performance and reliability and, most importantly, lower operating and service costs.
The new replacement models, the Coherent Diamond J-5 and Coherent Diamond J-6, are completely new CO2 lasers that bring additional advantages over the older model. In addition to the unification of the design architecture of each model, changes have been made that mean longer laser life and high on-site serviceability without the need to send the laser to a repair shop. The Diamond J-5 is also available in 9.4 µm and 10.2 µm wavelengths in addition to the base 10.6 µm wavelength.
Because the new Diamond J-5 and Diamond J-6 laser sources were designed as direct replacements for the older Diamond E-400, they are designed to be interchangeable without complex machine design changes. In addition, they have the same control system as the older model, so there is no additional cost involved in upgrading your production either.
If you decide to upgrade your laser machine, our certified technicians will inspect on-site the necessary power, cooling and optical path systems of the existing laser. They will then recommend a new Coherent Diamond J laser source model to ensure full continuity of your production. The subsequent installation of the new laser machine, its setup and configuration are just the finishing touches to the process, at the end of which you will have a new machine with higher reliability and higher performance.
