Modular automated spectrofluorimeter

The client required a modular spectrofluorimeter capable of measuring fluorescence spectra in the spectral range of at least 200 nm - 980 nm, with fluorescence lifetime measurements on a time scale of at least 90 ps to 10 µs and time-resolved phosphorescence on a time scale of at least 5 µs to 10 s. The spectrometer had to have a guaranteed sensitivity of greater than 10000:1, Czerny-Turner monochromators and a cuvette holder with thermoelectric sample tempering. In addition, the fluorimeter had to include an integrating sphere for absolute quantum yield measurements and allow automated measurement of fluorescence anisotropy.

For this task, we chose the FS5 modular spectrofluorimeter with a total sensitivity >10000:1, a set of excitation sources, a cuvette holder with thermoelectric sample tempering, a sensitive photomultiplier with a spectral range of 200-980 nm, and computer-controlled polarizers for fluorescence anisotropy measurements. The system includes a module with an integrating sphere for measuring the quantum yield of fluorescence by the absolute method. The spectrometer allows measurement of luminescence lifetimes in the range of 90 ps - 10 s.
