Excitation (excitation) filters are a type of interference filter used as part of the optical assembly of fluorescence microscopesto filter different wavelengths of light, in this case to filter the excited light coming from the radiation source. Excitation filters pass the light of shorter wavelengths that is needed to excite (excite) fluorescence, while absorbing the other light (with longer wavelengths).
