High precision laser head for micro welding

The PH10-SmartWeld+ precisely steers the laser beam of single-mode fiber lasers to shape weld seams in width, depth and profile of the weld penetration. This enables precise welding of heat-sensitive materials and combinations of heterogeneous materials such as copper with aluminium or steel. This brings the economy, convenience and reliability of fiber lasers to applications that were previously challenging for this technology.

SmartWeld+ incorporates an advanced form of beam shaping including a wide range of oscillation patterns and precise control of the delivered laser energy during the welding process. The result is a significant improvement in welding accuracy and reliability along with minimization of the heat affected zone.

The PH20 SmartWeld+ performs the most demanding welding processes on thin and thick materials - including copper and aluminium, and even on heterogeneous materials - with unrivalled precision and high speed. It achieves this by consistently controlling weld cross-section and weld quality while minimizing heat input. The PH20 SmartWeld+ combines fixed beam optics with a highly dynamic galvanometric scanning module (speeds up to 2 kHz) and is controlled via software that provides a range of pre-programmed scan patterns. Controlling the weld path independently of the scan pattern allows easy programming. It can be used with Coherent's single-mode standard and adjustable ring mode (ARM) fiber lasers with up to 5 kW of average power.
