The COHERENT ExactMark 230 laser system simplifies laser black marking.
Laser black marking applications for medical devices, automotive and consumer products, as well as other advanced marking tasks, are simplified and automated by the new ExactMark 230 USP system from COHERENT. This highly integrated laser system combines our ultra-fast PowerLine Rapid NX laser marking and motion hardware with user-friendly software to create high-contrast permanent marks on metals such as stainless steel, titanium and aluminum, as well as on a variety of plastics including PEEK/PPSU.

Laser black marking is used, for example, to mark reusable medical instruments.
Laser black marking of metals is based on nanostructuring the surface to create a high-contrast, light-capturing layer. This marking technique is particularly suitable for mandatory UDI marking on reusable stainless steel medical instruments and devices, as the laser marks do not compromise passivation and resist fading and corrosion even after repeated, demanding sterilization. In addition, the same system marks plastics without thermal discoloration.
All ExactMark 230 USP machines come with a vertical axis of linear motion (Z) for focal height adjustment and can be optionally configured with several other axes of motion. Control is via an easy-to-use graphical user interface with a 24" (610 mm) touchscreen monitor. The Laser FrameWork software suite integrates all system functions and a library of intuitive routines simplifies program creation for each marking application. In addition, the system's mechanical, electrical and pneumatic interfaces are designed to allow easy integration of customer-designed fixtures.
